In the early years of a vehicle loan, you could lose out on more than just your vehicle if it’s ever declared a total loss due to accident or theft. It’s likely that your primary insurance will only cover the actual cash value, which means you could be stuck paying the difference. With GAP Protection®, your coverage helps bridge the “gap” between what your insurance will cover and what you might still owe.

Why do you need this protection?

  • During the first few years of ownership, there is a high probability of actual cash value of the vehicle being worth less than the loan payoff. If your car is deemed a total loss, the "GAP" could translate to thousands of dollars still owed after your insurance company paid the actual cash value of the vehicle.
  • Why is Gap coverage from St. Helens Auto Center better than insurance company coverage?

    • Insurance companies typically offer coverage up to 125% of the vehicle's value, based on factors like retail or MSRP. However, at St. Helens Auto Center, our Gap coverage extends up to 150% of the vehicle's value.
    • Unlike insurance company Gap coverage, we also cover deductibles, providing up to $1000 in deductible coverage.
    • Opting for Gap coverage through your insurance company may result in two separate claims against your insurance record, leading to higher rates. With St. Helens Auto Center, the total loss is considered as one claim, and the Gap payment is a separate claim.
    • In situations where the vehicle is close to being considered a total loss, insurance companies may try to avoid paying the Gap settlement, potentially leaving you with a vehicle that should have been written off.
By choosing Gap coverage with St. Helens Auto Center, you can avoid risking your insurance premiums and potential out-of-pocket expenses. Our coverage is conveniently included in your monthly payment, making it an easier and less risky decision for you. Don’t leave your financial wellbeing to chance. Get GAP!
